The Bead Head Prince Nymph is a compact, high-visibility stillwater nymph that gets down fast and stays in the strike zone. This slim pattern features a bright chartreuse body with subtle iridescent ribbing, a gold tungsten bead head, and a sparse black marabou or hackle fibre tail that adds just enough movement to seal the deal. The Bead Head Chartreuse Chironomid is a standout pattern when fish are keyed in on bright, high-contrast food sources in deeper water.

When to Use:

Best Time of Year: Ice-off through June and again in September through October. Chartreuse is especially effective in low-light conditions, overcast days, and in lakes with slightly stained or green-tinted water.

Imitates: Chironomid and midge pupae ascending toward the surface. The bright chartreuse colouring matches certain species of lake midges and also serves as a high-visibility attractor variation when fish are actively feeding subsurface.

Target Fish: Rainbow trout in BC interior stillwaters, particularly in the Kamloops and Okanagan regions where chironomid fishing is a way of life. Effective for brook trout and lake trout in Ontario stillwaters. Can also pick up kokanee salmon in deeper BC lakes when suspended at the right depth.

Pro Tip: Fish it dead still under an indicator at the depth fish are holding, typically just above bottom or suspended in the water column. A slow, hand-twist retrieve or occasional lift can trigger lockjaw fish. Pair it with a more natural-coloured chironomid on a second dropper for a deadly two-fly rig.
